Welcome to Visitors

Who are we?
Southwell Methodist Church is a family friendly Church and  consists of a wide range of different people, from all ages and different backgrounds. Whoever you are you are assured a very warm welcome at Southwell Methodist Church.

When to arrive:
All of our services (except for on rare, special occasions) start at 10am but We do have refreshments available before the service, from 9:30am usually with Danish pastries! If you are driving then you'll be pleased to hear that there is ample parking. For directions to reach us please see the Location page. You'll be greeted on the door by our welcoming team who will give you some information about the church and notices of forthcoming events.

What to wear:
This is easy. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people as they are. There is no need to dress up to try and be someone that you're not. Whether you come as a suited businessman or a freaked-out punk that is fine with us.

What to expect:
For some people going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here's a quick summary of what you can expect at Southwell Methodist Church. First of all we aren't super-spiritual beings, we all had a 'first day' at church, you'll find we are a friendly bunch, if you don't understand something please simply ask. After the initial refreshments we start at 10am with some music and prayers as well as engaging activities for all ages. Part way into the service there are breakout groups usually involving a Discussion Group, a Bible Study, a Prayer Space and a talk (folk choose which of these they’d like to go to on the day and are all reunited 20 minutes later) this is also the time that our children’s activities happen. We have two groups which are age-specific and include lots of fun and hands-on ways to engage with the theme for the day. We then conclude the service by feeding back from the breakout time followed by some more music and a chance to pray together. Following the service we have refreshments which you’d be welcome to stay for. Our aim is that whether you are just looking into Christianity for the first time or have been a Christian for many years that you should be encouraged and inspired by the morning. We hope that everyone will draw closer to God.

What we believe:
We are a Christian church and believe that all can have relationship with God. We believe this relationship with God is possible because of Jesus (God's only son) who invites us to follow him. We have friendly relationships with other local churches from both traditional and modern backgrounds. If you are interested in exploring the Christian faith then please come along on a Sunday.

Is it just Sundays?
Absolutely not! God is with us all week long and we aim to lead lives pleasing to him. We're not perfect and we do make mistakes, but we desire to make a positive difference in everything we do. To further encourage us we have small groups who meet during the week (a small group is simply a meeting of maybe 10 people in someone's house). Small groups are a great way to get to know others in the church and to be real with each other about everyday living. If you are just looking into Christianity you are welcome to come along to a small group.

For those with disabilities:
We aim to be an all-inclusive church. However our resources are limited so we try to provide for our current attendees. If you wish to discuss specific needs please contact the minister. Our premises are accessible for those with disabilities. Both the kitchen and toilets are accessible. We have a loop for the hearing impaired.
