There are many opportunities for you to join the team at SMC. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the minister and he will be happy to discuss the opportunities we have. We operate 'safe' recruitment and it may be necessary for volunteers (particularly those coming into contact with children and vulnerable adults) to take part in our 'Creating Safer Space' training and /or undergo a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service, criminal reference check) though this should not dissuade you from volunteering it is routine procedure as we aim to safeguard those who come into our care.
Particular Opportunities at present include:
Phizz-Whizz Holiday Club.
Our Phizz-Whizz Holiday Club needs volunteers to supervise groups and deliver children's activities. Please see the Families4SMC tab (above) for more details.
Teams4U Shoe Box Appeal Volunteers.
Our newest project is to try to set up a local collection hub for Teams4U shoe boxes. Details are as follows:
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
To bring love, joy and hope to children living gin unimaginable deprivation and neglect.
This year we hope to bring together a team of people in the area, who would like to be part of this wonderful project of sending gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children.
We will be supporting Teams4U (www.teams4U.com), a charity set up 10 years ago by Dave Cooke.
Dave was the inspiration and developer of Operation Christmas Child and Teams4U is a spin off project from this. Dave has taken this project back to the main aim of the shoebox project with his newly formed charity Teams4U - simply to bring love, joy and hope to children who have so little or nothing at all. Taking the love and care from one person to another. What joy and hope this can bring!
We need volunteers to help run a local group for the Newark and Southwell area to come and share the work and enjoy working with others for others. Detail include:
• involvement probably for about 6 weeks, evenings and maybe some daytimes
• help for an hour or however much time you wished
• probably focussed in the Sutton-on-Trent
Venue, times etc to be confirmed and a get-together organised for early September to explain all!
If you would like a bit more information or to be involved in this wonderful project, please contact
Janet Walker (Project coordinator) ℅ Revd. Peter Hibberts (Minister for Elston, North Muskham, Southwell and Sutton on Trent Methodist Churches) by telephone - 01636812166 or email - email@example.com.
