Volunteering

There are many opportunities for you to join the team at SMC. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the minister and he will be happy to discuss the opportunities we have. We operate 'safe' recruitment and it may be necessary for volunteers (particularly those coming into contact with children and vulnerable adults) to take part in our 'Creating Safer Space' training and /or undergo a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service, criminal reference check) though this should not dissuade you from volunteering it is routine procedure as we aim to safeguard those who come into our care.

Particular Opportunities at present include:

Help Wanted!

We need your help as part of two new teams in the life of Southwell Methodist Church:

Worship For All Team

This team will be responsible for the planning and delivering our monthly ‘Worship for All’ services (generally but not exclusively the second Sunday of the month). The hope is that we will meet on a bi-annual basis to plan when the Worship for All services will happen (six at a time) and what the themes will be. We will then meet each month to plan the worship opportunities including music, prayer, children’s work and other creative elements for the services. Attendance at all Worship for All services is not necessary your help would still be gratefully received in the planning and partial delivery phases if that’s what you can offer!

Fringe Team

Help is needed to consistently deliver this contemporary and creative worship service on a monthly basis. The Fringe meets on the last Sunday of every month, beginning at six. It’s a growing ministry and an exciting place to be. Help is needed in the following areas (you needn’t be a current attender to become part of the team) there may also be opportunities to be part of a rota for these roles if sufficient volunteers are found:

Setting up and packing away

This involves moving the chairs before and after as well as setting out the art materials and packing them away. (Commitment between approximately 5-5:30pm and 7:30-8pm.)

Providing refreshments

This involves bringing biscuits, serving tea and coffee and clearing away all of the drinks things at the end. (Commitment between 5:30pm and 7:30pm including attendance of the Fringe.)

Children’s work

This involves supervising children’s activities (during the Fringe) such as DVD, computer games, puzzles and colouring activities. It also involves bringing milk (for Hot Chocolate) and biscuits to serve part way through. (Commitment between 5:30pm and 7:30pm but the team will not be able to attend the fringe.) Criminal reference checks and Safer Space training will be necessary, but this can be arranged.

If you would consider being part of either of these teams then please contact Rev Peter Hibberts -
